Ruben conducted a "treat game" with the children, the legal counsel explained, in which he would access the sleeping quarters when they were settling down and tell them to consume candy "as fast as possible".

She informed the proceedings the man had conducted this practice with the young males "for many years", and children had earlier experienced illness the subsequent day.

The legal representative stated further: "In the summer" his stepchild had suspicions about the situation, with valid cause.

"They decided to investigate in the defendant's belongings."

The legal counsel explained objects including lubricant, Vaseline and medical needles were found, and his family member alerted the law enforcement about his concerns.

She stated the man continued to conduct the "treat game" with six children that time - that Saturday - and they were everyone unwell the subsequent day.

"The police had not arrived by that stage," she stated further.

The oversight body, the investigative body, previously told that it was examining Leicestershire Police's handling of the situation.

The legal representative stated the children were struggling to walk due to being ill, so Ruben's stepson notified the police again.

She said the man then played the "candy game" in a room of five youngsters.
